Vehicle Speed Sensor (M/T)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Dodge SX and 2003 Dodge Neon. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is a pulse generator mounted to an adapter near the transmission output shaft. See Fig 1. The sensor is driven through the adapter by a speedometer pinion gear. The VSS pulse signal to the speedometer/odometer is monitored by the powertrain control module speed control circuitry to determine vehicle speed and to maintain speed control set speed.
