DTC P0516: Battery Temp Sensor Low: Testing

  1. Turn the ignition on, engine not running. With the DRBIII®, read the Battery Temp sensor voltage. If the voltage is below .1 volt, go to next step. If the voltage is not below .1 volt, see INTERMITTENT CONDITIONS . Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-5 .
  2. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Battery Temp Sensor harness connector. Turn the ignition on, engine not running. With the DRBIII®, read Battery Temp sensor voltage. If the Battery Temp Sensor voltage read approximately 5 ohms, replace the Battery Temperature sensor. See POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-5 . If the Battery Temperature sensor did not read approximately 5 ohms, go to next step.
  3. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Battery Temp sensor harness connector. Disconnect the PCM harness connector. Measure the resistance between ground and the (K118) Battery Temp Signal circuit in the Battery Temp Sensor harness connector. If the resistance is below 100 ohms, repair the short to ground in the (K118) Battery Temp Signal circuit. See POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-5 . If the resistance is not below 100 ohms, go to next step.
  4. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Battery Temp Sensor harness connector. Disconnect the PCM harness connector. Measure the resistance between the (K118) Battery Temp Signal circuit and the (K167) sensor ground circuit in the Battery Temp sensor harness connector. If the resistance is below 100 ohms, repair the (K167) sensor ground shorted to the (K118) Battery Temp Sensor signal circuit. See POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-5 . If the resistance is not below 100 ohms, go to next step.
  5. NOTE: Before continuing, check the PCM harness connector terminals for corrosion, damage, or terminal push out. Repair as necessary.
  6. If there are no possible causes remaining, replace and program the PCM. See PROGRAMMING . Perform POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST VER-5 .
