Powertrain Verification Test VER-5
NOTE:
For component location, see COMPONENT LOCATIONS . For connector identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For circuit identification and wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Inspect the vehicle to ensure that all engine components are properly installed and connected. Reassemble and reconnect components as necessary.
- If any existing DTCs have not been repaired, perform appropriate DTC test and finish diagnosing remaining DTCs as necessary. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS .
- Connect the DRBIII® scan tool scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
- Ensure the fuel tank is at least 1/4 full. Turn off all accessories.
- If the PCM was not replaced, go to step 9. If PCM was replaced, go to next step.
- If the PCM was replaced, the correct Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and mileage must be programmed or a DTC will set in the Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB) and Air Bag Control Modules (ACM). See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under PROGRAMMING. In addition, if the vehicle is equipped with Sentry Key Immobilizer Module (SKIM), secret key data must be updated to enable start. See SENTRY KEY IMMOBILIZER MODULE under PROGRAMMING.
- For ABS and air bag systems, enter correct VIN and mileage in PCM. Erase DTCs in CAB and ACM.
- For SKIM theft alarm, connect DRBIII® scan tool scan tool to DLC. Go to Theft Alarm, SKIM, Misc, and place SKIM in Secured Access Mode by using the appropriate Personal Identification Number (PIN) code for this vehicle. This number may be obtained from the vehicle's owner or manufacturer. Select Update The Secret Key Data. Data will be transferred from SKIM to PCM.
- If the catalytic converter was replaced, with the DRBIII® scan tool, go to the Misc Menu Option, Catalyst Replaced and press enter.
- If a comprehensive component DTC was repaired, perform steps 11- 13 . If a major OBD-II monitor DTC was repaired, go to step 14.
- Turn the ignition off and wait at least 10 seconds. Restart the vehicle and run 2 minutes.
- With the DRBIII® scan tool, monitor the appropriate OBD-II Pretest Enabling Conditions screen until all conditions have been met. Once the conditions have been met, switch screen to the appropriate OBD-II monitor. Operate vehicle within all enabling conditions and allow applicable OBD-II monitor to run. While OBD-II monitor is running, scan tool will beep.
- If the DTC conditions cannot be duplicated, erase all DTCs with the DRBIII® scan tool. After OBD-II monitor is complete, view the results. Did the OBD-II monitor run successfully and has the Good Trip Counter changed to one or more? If yes, repair is complete. If no, go to next step.
- With the DRBIII® scan tool scan tool, read DTCs. Are any DTCs or symptoms remaining? If yes, check for any related Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) and/or perform appropriate DTC test and finish diagnosing remaining DTCs as necessary. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If no, repair is complete.
