DTC P0516: Battery Temperature Sensor Low: Testing

  1. Turn the ignition on, with the engine off. With the DRBIII(R), read DTCs and record the related Freeze Frame data, and read the Batt Temp Sensor voltage. Is the voltage less than 0.5 volt? If yes, go to next step. If no, see INTERMITTENT FAILURES  under ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTICS.
  2. Turn the ignition on, with the engine off. With the DRBIII(R) in Sensors, read the Batt Temp Sensor voltage value. Disconnect the BTS harness connector. Did the Batt Temp Sensor voltage change from less than one volt to more than 4.5 volts? If yes, replace the BTS. If no, go to next step.
  3. Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the BTS harness connector. Disconnect the PCM harness connectors. Measure the resistance between ground and the BTS Signal circuit in the BTS harness connector. Is the resistance less than 100 ohms? If yes, repair the short to ground in the BTS Signal circuit. If no, go to next step.
  4. Measure the resistance between the BTS Signal circuit and the Sensor Ground circuit in the BTS Sensor harness connector. Is the resistance less than 5.0 ohms? If yes, repair the short between the Sensor Ground circuit and the BTS Signal circuit. If no, go to next step.
  5. NOTE: Before continuing, check the PCM harness connector terminals for corrosion, damage, or terminal push-out. Repair as necessary.
  6. There are no possible causes remaining, replace the PCM.
