DTC P0580: Speed Control Switch #1 Low: Testing

  1. DO NOT press any S/C Switches. Turn the ignition on, with the engine off. With the DRBIII(R), read the S/C voltage. Is the S/C voltage less than one volt? If yes, go to next step. If no, see INTERMITTENT FAILURES  under ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTICS. If no, go to next step.
  2. With the DRBIII(R), monitor the S/C Switch voltage. Disconnect the Right S/C switch harness connector. Did the voltage change to more than 4.7 volts? If yes, replace the Right S/C Switch. If no, go to next step.
  3. Reconnect Right S/C Switch harness connector. With the DRBIII(R), monitor the S/C Switch voltage. Disconnect the Left S/C harness connector. Did the voltage change to more than 4.7 volts? If yes, replace the Left S/C Switch. If no, go to next step.
  4. CAUTION: DO NOT probe the PCM harness connectors. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals resulting in poor terminal-to-pin connection. Install Miller Special Tool (8815) to perform diagnosis.
  5. Disconnect Right S/C Switch harness connector. Disconnect PCM harness connectors. Measure the resistance of the S/C Switch Signal circuit from each S/C Switch harness connector to the appropriate terminal in the Miller Special Tool. Is the resistance less than 5.0 ohms? If yes, repair the S/C Switch Signal circuit shorted to the Sensor Ground circuit. If no, go to next step.
  6. CAUTION: DO NOT probe the PCM harness connectors. Probing the PCM harness connectors will damage the PCM terminals resulting in poor terminal-to-pin connection. Install Miller Special Tool (8815) to perform diagnosis.
  7. Measure the resistance of the Sensor Ground circuit from each S/C Switch harness connector to the appropriate terminal in the Miller Special Tool. Is the resistance less than 5.0 ohms? If yes, repair the short to ground in the Sensor Ground circuit. If no, go to next step.
  8. NOTE: Before continuing, check the PCM harness connector terminals for corrosion, damage, or terminal push-out. Repair as necessary.
  9. There are no possible causes remaining, replace the PCM.
