Using Generic Scan Tool

  1. Refer to scan tool manufacturer's instructions and procedures. Generic scan tools may not have ability to measure voltage, resistance or continuity. When instructed, use of an additional DVOM may be required.
  2. Using the scan tool, read DTCs. If any DTC is present, go to appropriate procedure for DTC(s) displayed. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX  table. If no DTCs are present, go to SYSTEM TESTS  . When diagnosing a system with many apparent problems, a sequence of tests may be required. After repairs, ensure all problems or failures have been corrected. Perform appropriate verification test. See VERIFICATION TESTS  .
