Engine Controls - Self-Diagnostics - JTEC: Introduction

NOTE: Vehicles equipped with the Jeep/Truck Engine Controller (JTEC) Powertrain Control Module (PCM) are equipped with a separate Transmission Control Module (TCM). The Next Generation Controller (NGC) combines the PCM and the TCM into a single controller. The JTEC PCM has 3 harness connectors and the NGC PCM has 4 harness connectors. This article applies only to Durango models equipped with a JTEC PCM. For self-diagnostic information on Durango models equipped with the NGC PCM, see SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - DURANGO - NGC article. Throughout this article, the JTEC PCM will be referred to as the PCM.

To properly diagnose and repair this vehicle, follow DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) are present and a no-start condition exists, proceed to BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES - DAKOTA & DURANGO article. If no DTCs are present and a driveability condition exists, proceed to the appropriate TROUBLE SHOOTING - NO CODES article for diagnosis by symptom (i.e., ROUGH IDLE, ENGINE STALLS, etc.).
