Horn Relay Shorted To Battery
NOTE:
After making any repairs, perform VTSS VERIFICATION TEST under VERIFICATION TESTS.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, erase Front Control Module (FCM) DTCs. Turn ignition off. Wait approximately 10 seconds. Turn ignition on. Recheck for FCM DTCs. If HORN RELAY SHORTED TO BATTERY resets, go to next step. If HORN RELAY SHORTED TO BATTERY does not reset, system is okay at this time. Check for intermittent poor connections or faulty circuits. See ANTI-THEFT and HORN in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Turn ignition off. Remove horn relay from Intelligent Power Module (IPM). See Figure. Replace horn relay with a known-good relay. Turn ignition on and attempt to operate horn. Recheck for FCM DTCs. If HORN RELAY SHORTED TO BATTERY resets, go to next step. If HORN RELAY SHORTED TO BATTERY does not reset, replace horn relay.
- Turn ignition off. Locate and disconnect FCM. See FRONT CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove horn relay from IPM. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground and FCM connector terminal No. 10. See Figure. If voltage is 10 volts or less, replace FCM. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, replace IPM.
