A/C System Control

  1. Ensure ignition is off. Check for poor connections or faulty terminals at Engine Control Module (ECM) connector C-111 and C-122 (M/T) or Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector C-112 and C-119 (A/T). ECM/PCM is located on passenger's side of vehicle. See Figure . Repair faulty connections as necessary. Recheck for improper idle speed condition. If connections are okay, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect ECM connector C-111 or PCM connector C-112. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground, and ECM connector C-111 terminal or PCM connector C-112 terminal No. 20 (Green wire). See Figure or Figure . Battery voltage should be indicated. Disconnect DVOM and connect a fused jumper wire between ground, and ECM connector C-111 or PCM connector C-112 terminal No. 20 (Green wire). A/C relay should click. See Figure . If voltage is as specified and relay operates as described, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified or relay does not operate as described, diagnose A/C system. See appropriate article in AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING.
  3. Disconnect ECM connector C-122 or PCM connector C-119. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between ground, and ECM connector C-122 or PCM connector C-119 terminal No. 83 (Green/Red wire). See Figure or Figure . Turn A/C switch on and off. Battery voltage should be indicated when A/C switch in on. One volt or less should be indicated when A/C switch is off. If voltage is as specified, replace ECM/PCM. See REMOVAL, OVERHAUL & INSTALLATION - CARS article. If voltage is not as specified, diagnose A/C system. See appropriate article in AIR CONDITIONING & HEATING.
