Fuel Injectors (Using DVOM)
NOTE:
For fuel injector circuit testing, see DTCs P0201-P0206: INJECTORS NO. 1-6 CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS in appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article. Manufacturer recommends connecting Test Connector (MB991709) to fuel injector during testing procedure.
NOTE:
Listen to injectors during cranking and at idle. They should make ticking sound. Frequency of sound should increase as engine speed increases.
- For left bank injectors (cylinders No. 2, 4 and 6), disconnect fuel injector 2-pin electrical connectors. Measure resistance between injector terminals. Resistance should be 13-16 ohms at 68°F (20°C). If resistance is not as specified, replace fuel injector.
- For right bank injectors (cylinders No. 1, 3 and 5), disconnect intermediate connector. Intermediate connector is located at left rear of engine, below intake manifold plenum. For cylinder No. 1, measure resistance between intermediate connector terminals No. 1 (Red wire) and No. 2 (Yellow/Blue wire). See Fig 1 . For cylinder No. 3, measure resistance between intermediate connector terminals No. 1 (Red wire) and No. 3 (Yellow/Black wire). For cylinder No. 5, measure resistance between intermediate connector terminals No. 1 (Red wire) and No. 2 (Green/Red wire). Resistance should be 13-16 ohms at 68°F (20°C). If resistance is not as specified, replace fuel injector.
