DTC P0522: Oil Pressure Sensor Volts Low: Testing
- Turn ignition on, engine off. Using scan tool in SENSORS mode, read oil pressure sensor voltage. If oil pressure sensor voltage is more than .1 volt, go to next step. If oil pressure sensor voltage is .1 volt or less, go to step 3.
- At this time, conditions for DTC to set do not exist or fault is an intermittent problem. Using scan tool, review FREEZE FRAME data. Attempt to duplicate condition that caused DTC to set. Visually inspect related connectors and wiring harness for damage. Check for any related Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) that may apply. With engine running, wiggle wiring harness between PCM and oil pressure sensor. Using scan tool in SENSORS mode, read oil pressure sensor voltage. If oil pressure sensor voltage changes while wiggling wiring harness, repair wiring harness where wiggling caused voltage reading to change. If oil pressure sensor voltage does not change while wiggling wiring harness, no problem is indicated at this time. Test is complete.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect oil pressure sensor connector. Visually inspect connectors for corroded, damaged, pushed-out or miswired terminals. Repair connectors as necessary. If connectors are okay, turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and oil pressure sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 (Gray/Yellow wire). See Fig 1. If voltage is more than 4.9 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 4.9 volts or less, repair open in Gray/Yellow wire between oil pressure sensor and PCM.
- Ensure ignition is off and oil pressure sensor is disconnected. Disconnect PCM connectors. PCM is located in engine compartment on passenger-side inner fender panel. Measure resistance between ground and oil pressure sensor harness connector terminal No. 2 (Gray/Yellow wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Gray/Yellow wire between oil pressure sensor and PCM.
- Ensure ignition is off and oil pressure sensor and PCM are disconnected. Measure resistance between oil pressure sensor harness connector terminals No. 1 (Black/Light Blue wire) and No. 2 (Gray/Yellow wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short between Black/Light Blue wire and Gray/Yellow wire between oil pressure sensor and PCM.
- Ensure ignition is off and oil pressure sensor is disconnected. Reconnect PCM connectors. Using scan tool in SENSORS mode, read oil pressure sensor voltage. If oil pressure sensor voltage is more than 4.5 volts, replace oil pressure sensor. If oil pressure sensor voltage is 4.5 volts or less, replace PCM.
