Seat Belt Indicator Always On

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Gray 2-pin seat belt switch connector. Connect fused jumper wire between Gray 2-pin seat belt switch connector terminals. Turn ignition on. If seat belt indicator remains illuminated after 15 seconds, go to next step. If seat belt indicator is not illuminated after 15 seconds, replace seat belt switch.
  2. Turn ignition off. Using test light connected to battery voltage, probe Gray 2-pin seat belt switch connector terminal No. 2 (Black/Light Green wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Black/Light Green wire between Gray 2-pin seat belt switch connector terminal No. 2 and ground. See GROUND DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  3. Disconnect Gray 10-pin instrument cluster connector C2. See Figure . Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and Gray 10-pin instrument cluster connector C2 terminal No. 3 (Dark Blue/Red wire). See Figure . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Dark Blue/Red wire between Gray 10-pin instrument cluster connector C2 terminal No. 3 and Gray 2-pin seat belt switch connector terminal No. 1. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - DAKOTA & DURANGO article. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
