Parking Lights Will Not Turn On

  1. Locate parking light relay in instrument panel junction block. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  . Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), under lower left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. Ensure headlight switch is in OFF position. Using scan tool, actuate parking light relay. If parking light relay clicks during actuation, go to next step. If parking light relay does not click during actuation, go to step  5 .
  2. Remove parking light relay from instrument panel junction block. Connect fused jumper wire between parking light relay cavities No. 30 and 87. See EXTERIOR LIGHTS article. Turn parking lights on. If parking lights turn on, go to next step. If parking lights do not turn on, repair short to ground in Black/Yellow wire between Brown 11-pin instrument panel junction block connector C8 terminal No. 11 and Black 14-pin headlight switch connector terminal No. 1. See Figure and Figure .
  3. Using scan tool, select HEADLIGHT SWITCH VOLTAGE. If scan tool displays approximately .5 volt, go to next step. If scan tool does not display approximately .5 volt, replace headlight switch. See HEADLIGHT SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Using DVOM connected to ground, probe parking light relay cavity No. 30. If battery voltage exists, replace parking light relay. If battery voltage does not exist, replace instrument panel junction block.
  5. Remove parking light relay. Using DVOM connected to ground, probe parking light relay cavity No. 86. See EXTERIOR LIGHTS article. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, go to step  7 .
  6. Reinstall parking light relay. Disconnect Black 14-pin headlight switch connector. See Figure . Connect fused jumper wire between ground and Black 14-pin headlight switch connector terminal No. 3 (Light Green/Red wire). See Figure . If parking lights do not turn on, go to next step. If parking lights turn on, repair short to ground in Light Green/Red wire between Black 14-pin headlight switch connector terminal No. 3 and Gray 26-pin Central Timer Module (CTM) connector C1 terminal No. 7. See Figure .
  7. Check fuse No. 4 (20-amp) located in instrument panel junction block. If fuse No. 4 is blown, go to next step. If fuse No. 4 is okay, replace instrument panel junction block.
  8. Disconnect Black 14-pin headlight switch connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and Black 14-pin headlight switch connector terminal No. 1 (Black/Yellow wire). If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace fuse No. 4 and retest operation.
  9. Disconnect Gray 26-pin Central Timer Module (CTM) connector C1. CTM is located behind left side kick panel. Using DVOM, measure resistance between ground and Gray 26-pin CTM connector C1 terminal No. 4 (Red/Yellow wire). See Figure . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, repair short to ground in Red/Yellow wire between Gray 26-pin CTM connector C1 terminal No. 4 and Brown 11-pin instrument panel junction block connector C8 terminal No. 4. See Figure . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, replace CTM. See CENTRAL TIMER MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
