Rear Wiper Always On

  1. Turn ignition off. Remove rear wiper relay from power distribution center, located in left side of engine compartment, near battery. See Figure . Substitute rear wiper relay with a known-good relay. Turn ignition on. Operate rear wiper system. If rear wiper system works properly, replace rear wiper relay. If rear wiper system does not operate properly, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Remove rear wiper relay. Using test light connected to battery voltage, probe rear wiper relay cavity No. 87A (Black wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair short to voltage in Black wire between rear wiper relay cavity No. 87A and ground. See GROUND DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  3. Disconnect Central Timer Module (CTM) connectors. CTM is located behind left side kick panel. Using DVOM connected to ground, measure voltage at rear wiper relay cavity No. 85 (Pink/Yellow wire). If no voltage exists, go to next step. If any voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Pink/Yellow wire between rear wiper relay cavity No. 85 and Gray 12-pin CTM connector C3 terminal No. 9. See Figure .
  4. Disconnect Black 4-pin rear wiper motor connector. Using DVOM connected to ground, measure voltage at Black 4-pin rear wiper motor connector terminal No. 2 (Brown/Pink wire). See Figure . If no voltage exists, go to next step. If any voltage exists, repair short to voltage in Brown/Pink wire between rear wiper relay cavity No. 30 and Black 4-pin rear wiper motor connector terminal No. 2.
  5. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC), under lower left side of instrument panel. Turn ignition on. Set rear wiper switch to OFF position. Using scan tool, select WIPER SYSTEM MONITORS, then REAR WIPER. If scan tool displays REAR WIPER status as OFF, go to next step. If scan tool does not display REAR WIPER status as OFF, replace HVAC controller. See HEATING VENTILATION AIR CONDITIONING CONTROLLER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. Using test light connected to battery voltage, probe rear wiper relay cavity No. 85 (Pink/Yellow wire). Activate rear wiper. If test light illuminates, problem is intermittent. Visually inspect and wiggle test related wiring. If test light does not illuminate, replace CTM. See CENTRAL TIMER MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
