DTC P1281: Engine Is Cold Too Long: Testing
NOTE:
Extremely low ambient temperatures may cause DTC P1281 to be stored in PCM. The following procedure works best when engine is allowed to cold soak overnight.
Ensure coolant level is correct. Start engine and allow it to idle. Using scan tool, set engine speed to 1500 RPM and allow engine to warm for 10-15 minutes. Using scan tool in SENSORS mode, read ENG COOLANT TMP DEG value during warm up cycle. Ensure temperature value increases smoothly. If scan tool does not read at least 176°F (80°C), check thermostat and cooling system for probable causes. Repair cooling system as necessary. If scan tool reads at least 176°F (80°C), no problem is indicated at this time. Test is complete.
