Test NTC-10: Checking Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor Calibration

NOTE: Possible cause is defective Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor.
NOTE: After making any repair during this testing procedure, perform TEST VER-2A: ROAD TEST FOR NON-OBD II  .
NOTE: 2.0L engines are equipped with an Intake Air Temperature/Manifold Absolute Pressure (IAT/MAP) sensor. 2.4L/2.5L engines are equipped with an Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor and a separate Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor. For this test, IAT/MAP sensor will be referred to as MAP sensor.

Turn ignition off. Install vacuum "T" fitting and vacuum gauge at vacuum source on intake manifold. Start engine and let idle. If engine will not idle, maintain a constant RPM above idle. Note engine vacuum on vacuum gauge. Using scan tool, observe MAP sensor vacuum. If MAP sensor vacuum is within one in. Hg of engine vacuum on vacuum gauge, test is complete. If MAP sensor vacuum is not within one in. Hg of engine vacuum on vacuum gauge, replace MAP sensor. MAP sensor is located on intake manifold. See Figure -Figure .
