DTC P0106: Barometric Pressure Out Of Range
NOTE:
For connector terminal ID, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
. For wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS article.
NOTE:
Barometric pressure is monitored with ignition on for less than 350 milliseconds and engine speed is less than 255 RPM. DTC may be stored in Powertrain Control Module (PCM) when PCM senses Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor voltage is less than 2.196 volts, but more than .019 volt for 300 milliseconds. Possible causes are: defective MAP sensor, defective PCM, or defective connectors or wiring.
- Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, read MAP sensor voltage. If MAP sensor voltage is less than 2.2 volts, go to next step. If MAP sensor voltage is 2.2 volts or more, go to step 13 .
- Turn ignition off. Note location of MAP sensor. See Fig 1 -Fig 3 . MAP sensor contains a 3-pin connector. Disconnect MAP sensor connector.
- Turn ignition on with engine off. Using voltmeter, check voltage at Violet/White wire on MAP sensor connector. If voltage is more than 4.5 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 4.5 volts or less, go to step 8 .
- Ensure ignition is on with engine off. Using scan tool, read MAP sensor voltage with MAP sensor connector still disconnected. If MAP sensor voltage is 4.9 volts or less, go to next step. If MAP sensor voltage is more than 4.9 volts, replace MAP sensor. Perform TEST VER-2A .
- Turn ignition off. Ensure MAP sensor connector is still disconnected. Disconnect PCM connectors. PCM is located between driver's side front fender and power distribution center, near battery.
- Using ohmmeter, check resistance between Dark Green/Red wire on MAP sensor connector and terminal No. 36 (Dark Green/Red wire) on Black PCM connector C1. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open on Dark Green/Red wire between PCM and MAP sensor. Perform TEST VER-2A .
- Turn ignition on with engine off and MAP sensor connector still disconnected. Using scan tool, read MAP sensor voltage. If MAP sensor voltage is 2.2 volts or less, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2A . If MAP sensor voltage is more than 2.2 volts, repair partial short to ground on Dark Green/Red wire between MAP sensor and PCM. Perform TEST VER-2A .
- Using ohmmeter, check resistance between Violet/White wire on MAP sensor connector and terminal No. 61 (Violet/White wire) on Gray PCM connector C2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open on Violet/White wire between PCM and MAP sensor. Perform TEST VER-2A .
- Ensure PCM and MAP sensor connectors are still disconnected. Using ohmmeter, check resistance between ground and Violet/White wire on MAP sensor connector. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, go to next step. If resistance less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground on Violet/White wire between PCM and MAP sensor. Perform TEST VER-2A .
- Turn ignition on with engine off. Using scan tool, read MAP sensor voltage with MAP sensor connector still disconnected. If MAP sensor voltage is 2.2 volts or less, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2A . If MAP sensor voltage is more than 2.2 volts, replace partial short to ground on Dark Green/Red wire between MAP sensor and PCM. Perform TEST VER-2A .
- Ensure ignition is on with engine off. Wiggle wiring harness and connectors between MAP sensor and PCM while monitoring MAP sensor voltage. For MAP sensor location, see Fig 1 -Fig 3 . MAP sensor contains a 3-pin connector. PCM is located between driver's side front fender and power distribution center, near battery.
- If MAP sensor voltage does not become less than 2.2 volts at any time while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, go to next step. If MAP sensor voltage becomes less than 2.2 volts at any time while wiggling wiring harness and connectors, repair wiring or connectors between MAP sensor and PCM as necessary that caused the voltage to decrease. Perform TEST VER-2A .
- Inspect wiring harness and connectors between MAP sensor and PCM. If no problems exist, test is complete. If any problems exist, repair wiring or connectors as necessary. Perform TEST VER-2A .
