Chime Inoperative With Key In Ignition & Driver Door Open
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see
BODY CONTROL COMPUTER - INTRODUCTION article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A
after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting any module connector.
- Turn ignition off. Open driver's door. If chime does not sound, go to next step. If chime sounds, system is currently functioning correctly.
- Using scan tool, read driver's door ajar switch status. If scan tool displays DRDOOR AJAR SWITCH: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool does not display DRDOOR AJAR SWITCH: CLOSED, go to COURTESY LIGHTS INOPERATIVE WITH DRIVER DOOR (OPEN DRIVER DOOR AJAR CIRCUIT) under INTERIOR LIGHTING SYSTEM.
- Ensure key is in ignition switch. Using scan tool, read key-in ignition switch status. If scan tool does not display KEY-IN IGNITION SW: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool displays KEY-IN IGNITION SW: CLOSED, replace Body Control Module (BCM). BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure .
- Disconnect key-in ignition switch connector. See Figure . Connect jumper wire between key-in ignition switch connector terminals. Using scan tool, read key-in ignition switch status. If scan tool does not display KEY-IN IGNITION SW: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool displays KEY-IN IGNITION SW: CLOSED, replace ignition switch. See appropriate STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article.
- Connect jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 1 (Light Blue wire) on key-in ignition switch connector. Using scan tool, read key-in ignition switch status. If scan tool does not display KEY-IN IGNITION SW: CLOSED, go to next step. If scan tool displays KEY-IN IGNITION SW: CLOSED, repair open ground (Black wire) circuit.
- Access Body Control Module (BCM) connector "A". BCM is located with junction block under driver's side instrument panel. See Figure . Remove connector cover. Do not disconnect connector. Connect a backprobe jumper wire between BCM connector "A" terminal No. 4 (Light Blue wire) and chassis ground. Using scan tool, read key-in ignition switch status. If scan tool does not display KEY-IN IGNITION SW: CLOSED, replace BCM. If scan tool displays KEY-IN IGNITION SW: CLOSED, repair open Light Blue wire between BCM and ignition switch.
