Removal & Installation: Transmission: Installation

  1. Slide transmission back into clutch and seat against bell housing. Install upper and lower transmission bolts. Tighten bolts to 41 N.m (30 ft. lbs.). Connect speed sensor, reverse lamp switch and skip shift solenoid main connector at left side frame rail. Connect reverse lamp switch connector on right side of transmission. Install isolator/shifter handle from shifter tower to shifter tower with a crows-foot wrench.
  2. Install transmission crossmember and mount bolts/nuts. Tighten nuts to 81 N.m (60 ft. lbs.). Remove transmission support. Install hydraulic clutch quick connector to transmission bell housing. Install drive shaft. Install under body stone shield. Lower vehicle. Connect battery power source.
    CAUTION: Drive shaft strap bolts must be replaced or cleaned and Loctite(R) 242 applied.
    CAUTION: Replace drive shaft joint straps whenever they are removed. The straps slightly deform when torqued in place. Reuse of straps may result in reduced clamp load on universal joint cap.
