Power Steering Fluid Pressure Hose: Installation
- Using a lint free towel, wipe clean open power steering hose ends, power steering pump discharge fitting and steering gear port. Install new O-ring seals on ends of power steering hose. Lubricate NEW O-ring seals using fresh clean power steering fluid. Install power steering pressure hose on vehicle. The power steering pressure hose is to be routed between power steering pump and engine block. Install power steering pressure hose in discharge fitting on power steering pump.
- Be sure end of tube and O-ring seal is squarely seated in discharge fitting. Install pressure hose tube nut into discharge fitting of power steering pump only finger tight. See Figure. Correctly route power steering pressure hose to pressure port on steering gear. Install power steering pressure hose into steering gear. Install power steering pressure hose tube nut only hand tight. Be sure hose does not contact any areas that could cause abrasion to hose, then tighten tube nut to 29 N.m (252 INCH lbs.). See Figure.
- Tighten power steering pressure hose tube nut at power steering pump to 29 N.m (252 INCH lbs.). Fill power steering pump reservoir to correct fluid level. Start engine and let run for a few seconds, then turn engine off. Add fluid if necessary. Repeat above procedure until fluid level remains constant after running engine. Raise front wheels of vehicle off ground.
- Start engine. Slowly turn steering wheel right and left, lightly contacting wheel stops. Then turn engine off. Add power steering fluid if necessary. Lower vehicle and turn steering wheel slowly from lock to lock. Stop engine. Check fluid level and refill as required. If fluid is extremely foamy, allow vehicle to stand a few minutes and repeat above procedure. Check for leaks at all hose connections.
