Test 11A - Bus Short To Battery

NOTE: For connector terminal identification see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  . For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1  after each repair.
CAUTION: Always turn ignition off prior to disconnecting any module connector.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Transmission Control Module (TCM), if equipped. TCM is located at left fenderwell, next to power distribution center in engine compartment. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, replace TCM. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off and disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM). PCM is located next to air cleaner. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, replace PCM. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect anti-lock brake controller module. Anti-lock brake controller module is mounted on left inner fender panel. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, replace anti-lock brake controller module. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Overhead Travel Information System (OTIS) module 6-pin connector. OTIS module is mounted to headliner. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, replace OTIS module. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Automatic Temperature Control (ATC) head. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, replace ATC head. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Mechanical Instrument Cluster (MIC). Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, replace MIC. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) connectors. BCM is located on back of junction block. Ensure junction block connectors remain connected. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, replace BCM. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step.
  8. Turn ignition off and wait 5 minutes. Disconnect Air Bag Control Module (ACM) 23-pin connector. ACM is located under center console. Reconnect MIC. Turn ignition on. If scan tool does not display BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, replace ACM. If scan tool displays BUS SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step.
  9. Disconnect scan tool from Data Link Connector (DLC). Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between ground and DLC terminal No. 2 (Yellow/Violet wire). If voltage is 8 volts or less, replace scan tool cable or scan tool as necessary. If voltage is more than 8 volts, repair short to voltage in Yellow/Violet wire.
