Section 75 (Keyless Entry System - Remote): Description

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 7 other vehicles, including the 1996 Plymouth Voyager, 1996 Plymouth Grand Voyager, 1996 Dodge Ram Wagon, 1996 Dodge Ram Van, and 1996 Dodge Grand Caravan. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION: When battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.

The Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system allows for locking and unlocking of the vehicle doors by remote control, using a hand-held radio transmitter. Additionally on FWD vans, the RKE system activates the pre-programmed power driver's seat and power side mirrors (if equipped).

The RKE module (also known as power lock module on RWD vans) may receive signals from 2 transmitters on RWD vans or 4 transmitters on FWD vans (only 2 transmitters can be programmed to activate power seat and mirror). Each transmitter has its own code which is stored in RKE module memory. If the transmitter is replaced, code has to be programmed into memory. The receiver (RKE module) is capable of retaining memory even when power is removed. The hand-held transmitter will operate within approximately 23 feet of receiver. The transmitter has 2 replaceable 3-volt batteries.
