Test 16A: Traction Control System Switch

NOTE: Perform TEST 1A: CHECKING SYSTEM FOR FAULTS  before proceeding.
  1. Turn ignition on. Observe TRAC OFF light while pressing Traction Control System (TCS) switch several times. If TRAC OFF light switches on and off as switch is pressed, TCS switch is operating properly at this time. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST . If TRAC OFF light does not switch, go to next step.
  2. IF TRAC OFF light stays on all the time, repair TCS switch sense circuit (Red/Yellow wire) for short to ground. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST . If TRAC OFF light is not on all the time, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition off. Disconnect TCS switch connector. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance between TCS switch terminals No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 2 (Red/Yellow wire) while pressing TCS switch. If continuity exists when switch is pressed, go to next step. If no continuity exists when switch is pressed, replace TCS switch. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST .
  4. Turn ignition on. Using a voltmeter, check voltage on TCS switch connector terminal No. 2. If voltage is more than 9 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 9 volts or less, go to step 6).
  5. Check voltage between TCS switch connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2. If voltage is more than 9 volts, replace Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB). CAB is located behind steering rack, on left side of suspension crossmember. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST . If voltage is 9 volts or less, repair open Black wire. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST .
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Controller Anti-Lock Brake (CAB) connector. CAB is located behind steering rack, on left side of suspension crossmember. Inspect CAB connector for any damaged or pushed out terminals. Repair connector as necessary. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST . If terminals are okay, go to next step.
  7. Check voltage on CAB connector terminal No. 22 (Red/Yellow wire). If voltage is one volt or less, go to next step. If voltage is more than one volt, repair short to voltage in Red/Yellow wire.
  8. Using an ohmmeter, check resistance of Red/Yellow wire between CAB connector terminal No. 22 and TCS switch connector terminal No. 2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace CAB. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open Red/Yellow wire. Perform TEST VER-1A: VERIFICATION TEST .
