Windshield Wiper Test 8A - Rear Wiper Not Operating
NOTE:
Perform WINDSHIELD WIPER TEST 8A before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification and wiring diagrams, see appropriate sections in this article. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.
CAUTION:
Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
- Turn ignition on. If instrument cluster gauges do not operate, go to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER TEST 1A. If gauges operate, depress rear wiper switch to ON position. If indicator light on switch illuminates, go to next step. If indicator light does not illuminate, go to WINDSHIELD WIPER TEST 8B.
- Using scan tool, read rear wiper switch voltage. If voltage is about 2.5 volts go to next step. If voltage is not about 2.5 volts, go to WINDSHIELD WIPER TEST 8C.
- Disconnect rear wiper motor connector. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance on terminal No. 3 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open Black wire.
- Ensure rear wiper switch is still on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage on rear wiper motor connector, terminal No. 2 (Brown/Pink wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open Brown/Pink wire.
- Move voltmeter probe to terminal No. 1 (Brown/Gray wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace rear wiper motor. If voltage is 10 volts or less, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Connect jumper wire from chassis ground to rear wiper motor connector, terminal No. 1 (Brown/Gray wire). Disconnect Body Control Module (BCM) "B" connector. BCM is located with junction block. See Figure in CHIME TEST 2A.
- Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, measure resistance on "B" connector, terminal No. 49 (Brown/Gray wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, repair open Brown/Gray wire.
