Basic Idle Speed
NOTE:
ALWAYS check TPS adjustment after adjusting basic idle speed. See THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (TPS)
.
- Bring vehicle to normal operating temperature. Ensure transmission is in Park. Connect Multi-Use Tester (MUT) to diagnostic test connector, located under left side of dash. Select item No. 38 to check idle speed. See IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS table.
- If idle speed is not correct, clean throttle body bore and throttle valve. Recheck idle speed. If idle speed is still incorrect, adjust idle speed by turning idle Speed Adjusting Screw (SAS). See Fig 1 . If idle speed is higher than normal, even with idle SAS fully tightened, check to see if idle position switch has been moved.
- Adjust idle position switch if it has been moved. See IDLE POSITION SWITCH
under THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (TPS). If idle position switch has not been moved, fast idle air valve may be leaking. Replace throttle body if fast idle air valve is leaking.IDLE SPEED SPECIFICATIONS
