A/C Clutch Relay
A/C CLUTCH RELAY (EXCEPT DAKOTA)
- A/C clutch relay is located in engine compartment. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using a DVOM in voltmeter mode, backprobe Dark Brown/Orange wire at A/C clutch relay. See Fig 1 . If voltage is more than 10 volts, see appropriate G - TESTS W/ CODES article. If voltage is less than 10 volts, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect and inspect clutch relay connector. Repair as necessary.
- If connector is okay, backprobe Dark Brown wire in clutch relay connector. If voltage is less than 10 volts, check for open in Dark Brown wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, using an ohmmeter, backprobe Dark Brown/Orange wire in clutch relay connector. If resistance is less than 10 volts, check Dark Brown/Orange wire for short to ground. If resistance is more than 10 volts, replace A/C clutch relay.
A/C CLUTCH RELAY (DAKOTA)
- A/C Clutch Relay is located at power distribution center in engine compartment. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Actuate A/C switch on dash panel. If A/C clutch relay clicks, see appropriate G -TESTS W/ CODES article.
- If A/C clutch relay does not click, disconnect and inspect clutch relay connector. Repair as necessary. If connector is okay, replace clutch relay. Actuate A/C switch on dash. If clutch relay clicks, repair is complete. If clutch relay does not click, remove clutch relay.
- Using DVOM in voltage mode, backprobe cavity "A" in relay connector. See Fig 2 . If voltage is less than 10 volts, check for open in Dark Brown wire. If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn ignition switch to OFF position.
- Reconnect A/C clutch relay. Disconnect and inspect SBEC connector. Repair as necessary. If connector is okay, turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DVOM in voltage mode, backprobe cavity No. 34 on SBEC connector. See Figure . If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace SBEC. If voltage is less than 10 volts, check for open in Dark Brown/Orange wire.
