NS7 - Ignition Control Circuit Check
- Connect DRB II to engine harness connector. Connect analog voltmeter to ignition coil positive terminal and ground. Put system in ATM Test "01". If voltmeter reading is battery voltage, go to step 2). If voltmeter reading is zero volts, repair Dark Green/Black wire to coil positive terminal for an open circuit to wiring harness splice.
- Connect voltmeter to ignition coil negative terminal (Black/Yellow wire) and ground. If voltmeter reading pulsates between 10-14 volts, replace ignition coil. If voltmeter reading is not pulsating, but reads greater than 10 volts, go to step 3). If voltmeter reading pulsates between 5-10 volts, replace ignition coil. If voltmeter reading is pulsating between 0-2 volts, go to step 4).
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect 14-pin connector from SMEC. Connect ohmmeter to ignition coil negative terminal and 14-pin connector cavity No. 12. If there is not continuity, repair Black/Yellow wire to 14-pin connector cavity No. 12 for an open circuit to ignition coil. If there is continuity, replace SMEC for a defective power board. Before replacing SMEC, ensure terminal in connector cavity No. 12 is not damaged causing a poor connection.
- With DRB II connected to engine harness connector, turn ignition off. Disconnect Black/Yellow wire from negative side of ignition coil. Connect voltmeter to ignition coil negative terminal and ground. Put system in ATM Test "01". If voltmeter reading is between 0-2 volts, replace ignition coil.
- If voltmeter reading is greater than 10 volts, turn ignition off. Leave ignition coil negative terminal disconnected. Disconnect 14-pin connector from SMEC. Connect ohmmeter to 14-pin connector cavity No. 12 and ground. If no continuity, replace SMEC for a defective power board. If there is continuity, repair Black/Yellow wire to cavity No. 12 for a short circuit to ground.
