Diagnostic Mode

  1. Attach the Chrysler DRB II Tester (C-4805 ) to self-test connector. The connector is located in the engine compartment near the right side shock tower. If diagnostic readout box is not available, codes may be read off of the "Check Engine Light".
  2. Start engine (if possible). Move transmission shift lever through all positions, ending in Park. Turn A/C switch on, then off (if equipped).
  3. Stop the engine and, without starting it again, turn key on, off, on, off and on. Record 2-digit trouble codes as displayed on readout box or by counting flashes on check engine light.
  4. The 2-digit codes displayed by the check engine light are indicated by a series of flashes. For example, code 23 is displayed as flash, flash, 4-second pause, flash, flash, flash. After a slightly longer pause, any other codes stored are displayed in numerical order. Once the light begins to display trouble codes, it cannot be stopped. If you lose count, it will be necessary to start over with step 2).
  5. Code 88 indicates start of test. If 88-12-55 is displayed, this indicates that there are no fault codes stored.
  6. The setting of a specific trouble code is the result of a particular system failure, NOT the reason for that failure, such as failure of a specific component. Therefore, the existence of a particular code denotes the probable area of the malfunction, not necessarily the failed component itself.
