Coolant Temperature Sensor (Cts)

The coolant temperature sensor measures temperature of engine coolant. The coolant temperature sensor is mounted near the thermostat housing. The CTS provides data on engine operating temperature to the SMEC.

Information provided by this sensor allows controller to provide slightly richer air/fuel mixtures and higher idle speeds during cold engine operation. The sensor is a variable resistor with a range of minus 40°F (4.5°C) to 265°F (130°C). Sensor is also used to turn on radiator fan.
