Charging System Control
The SMEC monitors battery voltage and charging system voltage. Some circuits are monitored continuously, while other circuits are checked only under specific operating conditions.
If a circuit fails the test sequence, the SMEC will enter "LIMP-IN" mode, will turn on the "CHECK ENGINE" light, and will substitute a value in place of the failed value. The following conditions will cause the SMEC to enter the "LIMP-IN" mode:
- Battery Voltage Sense - If battery voltage signal drops below 4 volts after engine has run for a least one minute. The SMEC will cause the charging system to operate at a fixed rate.
- Battery Voltage Too High - If battery voltage exceeds the predetermined control voltage by one volt.
