Power Windows: Description

Power windows are operated by a permanent magnet type electric motor. The electric motor is mounted in each door and operates window regulator when electric current is supplied. Master control switch provides the ground to each electric motor. Electrical circuit breaker is used for electric motor protection.

Control switches are operated by the driver, supplying electric current to the electric motor. Electric motor operation is reversed by changing the electric current flow through the electric motor.

Operation of the electric motor rotates the worm gear in the gear box mounted to the electric motor. Worm gear operation rotates the pinion gear which is meshed with the window regulator.

Two different types of electric window regulators are used, the conventional and the flexible drive. On the conventional regulator the operation of the pinion gear rotates the sector gear attached to the window. On the flexible drive window regulators the pinion gear meshes with a flexible track attached to the window.
