Fuel Injector Performance & Leakage Test
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Relieve fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELIEF under FUEL DELIVERY . Disconnect fuel hose from fuel filter outlet.
- Install Adapter (SST 09268-87702-000) on fuel filter. Remove connectors from each injector. Remove fuel delivery and fuel return hose from delivery pipe. Remove fuel pressure regulator from delivery pipe. Install pressure regulator onto adapter. See Fig 1 .
- Install fuel injector on adapter. Turn lock screw to secure injector in adapter. Install fuel lines into adapter. Install Sub-Harness (SST 09991-87702-000) on 6-pin check connector. Install jumper wire between terminals "F" and ground to operate fuel pump. See Figure .
- Install Injector Test Harness (SST 09842-30070-000) on fuel injector. Install a vinyl tube at tip end of injector to prevent fuel splashing. Place fuel injector into a measuring cylinder. Install negative battery cable. Turn on ignition.
- Connect positive (+) terminal of injector connector to positive terminal of battery. Connect injector connector negative (-) terminal to negative battery terminal. Ensure air is bled from fuel line. Energize fuel injector for 15 seconds and note total amount of fuel delivered.
- See INJECTOR PERFORMANCE TEST . Perform test 2-3 times for each injector. Replace fuel injector if volume is not within specification. Variation in fuel delivery amount between each injector must not exceed .17 oz. (5 cc).
- To check fuel injector leakage, remove injector test harness. Observe fuel leakage from fuel injector nozzle. Replace fuel injector if leakage exceeds one drop per minute. Turn ignition off. Disconnect cable from negative terminal of battery. Release fuel pressure and remove test equipment.
