Fuel Injector Operation & Resistance
- Using a stethoscope or screwdriver, listen or feel for each injector operating sound or vibration while engine is running or being cranked. If no sound or vibration exists, check wiring and connections on fuel injector. If wiring and connections are okay, check resistance.
- On 1.0L models, disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Remove accelerator cable, air cleaner hose, oil cooler hose and water pump hose from throttle body. Remove brake booster hose from surge tank (upper section of intake manifold).
- Disconnect vacuum hoses for air cleaner, Pressure Vacuum Switching Valve (PVSV), pressure regulator, Bimetallic Vacuum Switching Valve (BVSV), A/C fast idle device and blow-by gas hose.NOTE: Before disconnecting hoses and electrical connectors, tag each hose and connector for reassembly reference.CAUTION: Fuel pressure is present in fuel lines. Use caution when removing fuel hose.
- Disconnect idle-up VSV, EGR-VSV, intake air temperature sensor, TPS and cold start injector connectors. Remove fuel hose from cold start injector and delivery pipe. Use caution as fuel lines are under pressure. Remove surge tank support brace and wiring clamp bolt at back of surge tank. Remove EGR pipe and surge tank.
- On all models, remove fuel injector connector. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance between terminals of each injector. Replace injectors if resistance is not within specification. See INJECTOR RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS . To install remaining components, reverse removal procedure. Tighten surge tank retaining bolts, in 2 steps, to 11-16 ft. lbs. (15-22 N.m). Refill cooling system.
