Ignition System
When the distributor rotates, an alternating current is induced in the pick-up coil windings. The current passes through the ECU, which in turn signals the ignitor to trigger the ignition coil primary circuit. The collapse of the magnetic field in the ignition coil primary windings induces a high voltage surge in the secondary windings to fire the spark plugs.
