Removal And Installation: Fwd

REMOVAL 

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  3. Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to TIRES AND WHEELS. REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Lock the steering wheel in the centered position.
  5. Remove the steering shaft to steering gear pinch fastener, and DISCARD the pinch fastener. 

    Do not start to remove (or break free) pinch fastener with an impact wrench/gun.

  6. Remove the dash seal to dash panel fasteners.
  7. Remove both tie rod end nuts.

  8. Using ball joint remover (special tool #9360, Remover, Ball Joint), separate outer tie rod end from knuckle.
  9. Remove exhaust crossunder pipe. Refer to PIPE, EXHAUST CROSSUNDER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  10. Remove the front cradle. Refer to CROSSMEMBER, FRONT SUSPENSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION and/or CROSSMEMBER, STEERING GEAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
    NOTE:

    DO NOT disconnect the torque sensor (grey) harness connector and make sure it is connected properly. 

  11. Remove the heat shield from the steering gear, by removing the mounting fasteners.

  12. Remove the dash seal to steering gear fasteners, and remove the dash seal.

  13. Remove the bracket fasteners and remove the bracket.

  14. Remove the steering gear to sub cradle fasteners, and remove the steering gear from the sub cradle.

INSTALLATION 

Follow the removal procedure in reverse for general reassembly of the components on the vehicle. The steps listed below are calling out specific procedures that should be followed during installation.
