Removal And Installation: Left

REMOVAL 

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the left side upstream oxygen sensor wire harness connector.

  3. Remove the left side upstream oxygen sensor from the catalytic converter.
  4. Disconnect the left side downstream oxygen sensor wire harness connector.

  5. Remove the left side downstream oxygen sensor from the catalytic converter.
  6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  7. Remove the belly pan and the exhaust cross-under pipe from vehicle. Refer to PIPE, EXHAUST CROSSUNDER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
    NOTE: The lower bolts for the converter flange are used to hold a guide retainer plate. The retainer does not need to be removed. The catalytic converter is held in by the plate and upper bolts.
  8. Remove the catalytic converter to exhaust manifold upper bolts.

  9. Remove the catalytic converter by lifting and sliding the flange up and away from the exhaust manifold.
  10. If required, remove the lower retainer plate and the exhaust gasket from the manifold flange.

  11. If required, remove the upstream and downstream oxygen sensors from the catalytic converter.

INSTALLATION 

  1. If removed, position a new exhaust gasket onto the manifold flange and install the lower retainer plate. Loosely install all four bolts to align the gasket. Tighten the lower retainer bolts to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

  2. Position the catalytic converter against the exhaust manifold. Position the converter flange to the retainer.

  3. Install the upper flange bolts and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  4. Install the exhaust cross-under pipe and belly pan. Refer to PIPE, EXHAUST CROSSUNDER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  5. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
  6. Install the left side downstream oxygen sensor and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
    NOTE: If reinstalling the original oxygen sensors, coat the sensor threads with an anti-seize compound such as Loctite 771- 64 or equivalent. New sensors have compound on the threads and do not require an additional coating. Do Not add any additional anti-seize compound to the threads of a new oxygen sensor.

  7. Connect the left side downstream oxygen sensor wire harness connector.
  8. Install the left side upstream oxygen sensor and tighten to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
    NOTE: If reinstalling the original oxygen sensors, coat the sensor threads with an anti-seize compound such as Loctite 771- 64 or equivalent. New sensors have compound on the threads and do not require an additional coating. Do Not add any additional anti-seize compound to the threads of a new oxygen sensor.

  9. Connect the left side upstream oxygen sensor wire harness connector.
  10. Connect the negative battery cable.
  11. Start the engine and inspect for exhaust leaks. Repair exhaust leaks as necessary.
  12. Check the exhaust system for contact with the body panels. Make the necessary adjustments, if needed.
