Removal And Installation: Installation
The water pump on 3.6L engines is bolted directly to the engine timing chain case cover.
- Clean the gasket mating surfaces.NOTE:
Take notice to the lengths of the mounting bolts. Some M6 bolts mount directly to the timing cover.
- Using a NEW gasket, install water pump and tighten the M6, and M10 bolts (1) finger tight.
- Using the sequence shown in illustration, tighten the bolts 1 - 9 to their proper torque specifications:
- Tighten the M6 bolts to the proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Tighten the M8 bolts (9) to the proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Spin water pump to be sure that pump impeller does not rub against timing cover.
- Install the lower radiator hose (2) and the bypass hose (1).
- Install the idler pulleys (2). Tighten the bolts to the proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the engine mounting block to the water pump. Tighten the bolts To:
- Tighten the M 8 bolt to the proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Tighten the M10 bolt to the proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the right engine mount. Refer to INSULATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, RIGHT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.CAUTION:
When installing the serpentine accessory drive belt, belt must be routed correctly. If not, engine may overheat due to water pump rotating in wrong direction.
- Install the serpentine belt. Refer to BELT, SERPENTINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Evacuate air and refill cooling system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Check the cooling system for leaks. Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING .
