NOTE:
This engine uses a fixed ignition timing system. Basic ignition timing is not adjustable. All spark advance is determined by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
The ignition system is referred to as coil on plug. The system's main components are:
- Ignition coils (2)
- Spark plugs
- Ignition capacitors (4)
- Camshaft position sensor (1). Refer to SENSOR, CAMSHAFT POSITION, DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .
- Knock sensor (6). Refer to SENSOR, KNOCK, DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .
The coil on plug ignition system utilizes an ignition coil for every cylinder. The ignition coils are mounted directly over each spark plug.
