8HP70 Automatic Transmission (Service Information): Installation
CAUTION:
When supporting or lifting the transmission at the oil pan the weight of the transmission must be distributed evenly on the lifting fixture. Failure to do so could damage the oil pan and transmission.
NOTE:
Make sure that the transmission dowel pins are seated in engine block and protrude far enough to hold transmission in alignment.
NOTE:
If the transmission is being reconditioned (clutch/seal replacement) or replaced, it is necessary to perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
- Install the torque converter. Refer to TORQUE CONVERTER, INSTALLATION .
- Position the adapter bracket (4) in place, install the adapter bracket bolts (1) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Position the transmission mount (3) in place, install the transmission mount bolts (2) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .NOTE:
Hold torque converter in place during transmission installation.
- Position the transmission to the vehicle.
- Install the upper transmission to engine bolts (1, 2). Do not tighten at this time.
- Install the Left Hand (LH) transmission to engine bolts (1). Do not tighten at this time.
- Install the Right Hand (RH) transmission to engine bolts (1). Tighten all the transmission to engine bolts to the proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Rotate crankshaft in clockwise direction to line up the alignment hole (1) in the flexplate, then start the first bolt.
- Rotate the crankshaft clockwise until the torque converter bolts (1) are accessible. There are three sets of two bolts 120° apart. Install the remaining torque converter bolts and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Position the crossmember in place and install the crossmember bolts (1) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the transmission mount bolts (2) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Remove the transmission jack (1).
- Connect transmission fluid cooler lines (1) to the transmission fittings (2) and install the clips (3).
- Connect the wiring harness (1) push pins to the transmission.
- Connect the transmission wire harness connector (1) to the transmission.
- Turn the locking mechanism lock (1) of the transmission wire harness connector (2) clockwise to secure.
- Connect the parking pawl release cable (1) to the lever (2).
- Position the manual park release cable bracket/cable (2, 3), install the bolts (1) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the starter. Refer to STARTER, INSTALLATION .
- Install the driveshaft. Refer to INSTALLATION .
- Install the exhaust. Refer to RESONATOR, EXHAUST, INSTALLATION .
- Connect the right and left bank up stream oxygen sensors.
- Connect the negative battery cable.
- Perform the STANDARD PROCEDURE - TRANSMISSION FILL AFTER SERVICE. Refer to FLUID AND FILTER, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- If the valve body is replaced, program the Transmission Control Module (TCM). Refer to MODULE, TRANSMISSION CONTROL (TCM), MODULE PROGRAMMING .
- Perform the TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to TRANSMISSION VERIFICATION TEST .
