Arm, Lower Control, AWD: Installation
NOTE:
Left side shown in the illustration, right side similar.
- Install the lower control arm into the cradle.NOTE:
When installing lower control arm engine cradle bolts, it important to note that the forward bolt is installed front-to-rear and the rearward bolt is installed rear-to-front.
- Install lower control arm to cradle bolts and nuts (1). Do not tighten bolts at this time.
- Install the lower ball joint stud into knuckle (2). Install NEW
nut on ball joint stud, and tighten the lower ball joint to knuckle nut to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Align the strut clevis bracket with lower control arm bushing and install mounting bolt and nut (2). Do not tighten nut at this time. NOTE:
Always install a NEW hub nut. The original hub nut is one-time use only and should be discarded when removed.
- Install hub nut (1) on end of axle half shaft (2). While a helper applies brakes to keep hub from turning, tighten nut to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to INSTALLATION .
- Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
- Position vehicle on an alignment rack/drive-on lift.NOTE:
When tightening the strut clevis to lower control arm bolt and nut (2), do not attempt rotating bolt. Bolt shaft is serrated. Turn nut only.
- Tighten the strut clevis to lower control arm bolt and nut (2) to the proper torque specifications. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Perform wheel alignment. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Once camber is found to be within specifications, tighten lower control arm to cradle bolts and nuts (1) to the proper torque specifications while holding the bolts stationary. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install belly pan Refer to BELLY PAN, INSTALLATION .
