2.7L Engine

NOTE: Before proceeding. See Steering - Warning .
  1. Siphon as much fluid as possible from the power steering fluid reservoir.

  2. Remove the hose clamp (3) securing the supply hose (2) at the pump.
  3. Remove the supply hose (2) from the pump (4).
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Quick Reference/Hoisting - Standard Procedure

  5. Remove the wheel mounting nuts (3), then the right front tire and wheel assembly (1).

  6. While a helper applies the brakes to keep the hub from rotating, remove the hub nut (1) from the right side axle half shaft (2).
  7. Remove the drive belt splash shield.
  8. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Cooling/Accessory Drive/BELT, Serpentine - Removal

  9. Remove the nut (3) attaching the outer tie rod (6) to the right knuckle (2). To do this it might be necessary to hold the tie rod end stud with a wrench while loosening and removing the nut with a standard wrench or crowfoot wrench.

  10. Release the outer tie rod end (1) from the knuckle (3) using Remover (2), Special Tool 9360.
  11. Remove the outer tie rod from the knuckle.

  12. Remove the nut (4) attaching the lower ball joint to the right lower control arm (5).

  13. Release the lower ball joint (3) from the lower control arm (1) using Remover (2), Special Tool 9360.

    NOTE: Do not allow the half shaft (1) to hang by the inner C/V joint; it must be supported to keep the joint from separating during this operation.
  14. Lift the knuckle out of the lower control arm and pull the knuckle (2) off the half shaft (1) outer C/V joint splines.
  15. Remove the right half shaft (1) from the vehicle.

  16. Remove the pressure hose (2) at the pump (1).

  17. Remove the pump mounting bracket bolt (1) near the pump pulley.

  18. Remove the pump mounting bracket bolts (2) behind the pump on the back of the engine.
  19. Remove the pump with mounting bracket from the engine. To remove the pump from the engine compartment, rotate the pump so that the pulley is toward the engine, then remove the pump through the opening made by removing the axle half shaft in an earlier step.
  20. Remove the three pump mounting bolts through the pulley openings.
  21. Remove the power steering pump from the mounting bracket.
