Possible Causes

SHIFT LEVER CABLE OUT OF ADJUSTMENT
METAL DEBRIS ON TRS CODE PLATE
TRS SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN
TRS SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
TRS SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO VOLTAGE
TRANSMISSION RANGE SENSOR (TRS)
POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)

Always perform the 40/41TE Pre-Diagnostic Troubleshooting procedure before proceeding. See  DTC-Based Diagnostics/MODULE, Powertrain Control (PCM) - Standard Procedure  .
