The injection cycle is terminated when the PCM no longer actuates the injector solenoid valve. The solenoid valve stem is opened by the solenoid valve spring and the fuel displaced by the pump piston can escape into the fuel supply line. The pressure drops. The injector needle closes and the bypass is pressed into its initial position by the injector spring. The main cycle is now completed.
