Fuel Injector: Removal

NOTE: The injector clearance adjustment procedure must be performed any time an injector has been removed from the cylinder head.
CAUTION: PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE FOLLOWING POINTS WHEN REMOVING FUEL INJECTORS:
  • Injectors MUST be removed only using the special tools provided for this purpose.
  • Injectors MUST NOT be disassembled.
  • Before cleaning injector recesses, seal all injector holes in the injector recesses with a pin.
  • Clean all injector recesses in the cylinder head with a non-woven cloth and then a cylinder brush.
  • Carefully clean sealing surfaces of injector recesses with the round brush. DO NOT use a power brush.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
  2. Remove engine cover. Refer to REMOVAL . Refer to REMOVAL . Refer to REMOVAL .
  3. Remove cylinder head cover.

  4. Disconnect fuel feed (2) and return lines (1) from fuel filter (5).
  5. Connect a vacuum pump to the return line and suck all of the fuel from the cylinder head.

    NOTE: If injectors (1) are tight and cannot be removed by hand, remove with special tools slide hammer 8937 and injector remover 9887.
  6. Remove injector rocker shaft.
  7. Remove fuel injector retaining bolts (2) and discard.

    NOTE: Injectors can be removed without removing the camshafts.
  8. Connect slide hammer 8937 to injector remover 9887 (2).
  9. Twist remover clockwise and hold while tightening locking screw (1).
  10. Hold pressure on injector remover while removing injector with slide hammer 8937.
