Crankshaft Position Sensor: Operation

The crankshaft position and engine speed are sensed with a contactless hall effect signal generated by the crankshaft position sensor. The distance between the crankshaft position sensor and the tone wheel inside the rear main seal assembly is fixed by the installation position.

When the crankshaft rotates, a pulse width modulated (ON/OFF) voltage signal is generated in the crankshaft position sensor by the tone wheel inside the rear main seal assembly.
