Theory Of Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Dodge Avenger and 2010 Chrysler Sebring. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

The Transmission Control Module (TCM) monitors the operation of all clutch shift pressure solenoids. If a fault is detected, the TCM will enable one or more calibrated shift and pressure strategies to avoid damage to the transmission, depending on which gear the transmission is in when detected. It takes two consecutive one trip failures to set this DTC and illuminate the MIL.
