System Filling-Diesel Engine
NOTE:
Possible premature failure of cabin glow plugs may occur if the cabin heater glow plugs are exposed to air for more than 10 seconds when in operation. When filling the cooling system after a low coolant concern, the cabin heater glow plugs should be tested, refer to 2.4L DOHC - SERVICE INFORMATION
for Plumbing/Electric Coolant Pump information.
| 1 - FILLING AID FUNNEL 8195 |
| 2 - PINCH OVERFLOW HOSE |
- Tighten the radiator draincock by hand only. Do not use tools.
- Attach a clear hose to the vent valve port on radiator. Route hose into a clean container.
- Attach Filling Aid Funnel 8195 to coolant bottle fill neck. Use supplied clip to pinch off overflow hose.
- Slowly fill system, refer to DESCRIPTION for appropriate fluid information. Fill system through the pressurized coolant recovery container until a steady stream of coolant flows from the upper radiator vent valve.
- Close vent valve. Continue to fill Filling Aid Funnel 8195 to the top.
- Remove clip on overflow hose to allow Filling Aid Funnel 8195 to drain into overflow side of coolant bottle. Remove Filling Aid Funnel 8195.
- Install radiator cap.
- Operate engine with heater off for 20 minutes at 1500 - 2000 RPM. Shut off and allow to cool.NOTE: The engine cooling system will push any remaining air into the coolant recovery container (self purging) when engine is running. As a result, a drop in coolant level in the pressure container may occur.
- Add coolant to raise the level inside the pressure container to the FULL mark, as necessary. Only add coolant to the container when the engine is cold. Coolant level in a warm engine will be higher due to thermal expansion.
