Pump-Power Steering, 2.4L

  1. Using a lint free towel, wipe clean the open power steering pressure hose end and the power steering pump port. Replace any used O-rings with new. Lubricate the O-ring with clean power steering fluid.

  2. Ease the cooling module forward, don't force it  , and install the power steering pump with pulley into its mounting area.

  3. Place the pump (1) in mounting position with the stamped steel support bracket (2) behind it. Install the three bolts through the bracket and pump, into the threaded engine cover. Do not tighten the bolts at this time.
  4. Install the two bolts fastening the bracket (2) to the engine block. Tighten the two bolts to 54 N.m (40 ft. lbs.).
  5. Tighten the three pump mounting bolts previously installed to 28 N.m (250 in. lbs.).

    CAUTION: Make sure the supply hose is routed above the engine timing chain cover. The power steering fluid supply hose must remain clear of any unfriendly surface that can cause possible damage to it.
  6. Push the fluid supply hose onto the pump (2) supply fitting. Expand the hose clamp (1) and slide it over the hose and pump supply fitting. Secure the clamp once it is past the bead formed into the fluid reservoir fitting.
  7. Raise and support the vehicle.

  8. Insert the end of the pressure hose into the pump (1). Thread the fluid pressure hose tube nut into the pump.

  9. Using a crowfoot wrench on a long extension with a torque wrench, tighten the pressure hose tube nut (from below) at the power steering pump to 31 N.m (23 ft. lbs.).

  10. Install the four bolts fastening the A/C compressor (1) to the engine. Tighten the mounting bolts to 28 N.m (250 in. lbs.).
  11. Install the A/C compressor wiring connectors.
  12. Install the A/C drive belt. Refer to INSTALLATION .

  13. Position the drive-belt splash shield (3) and install the fasteners (4) securing it to the body (2).
  14. Install the fastener (5) securing the drive belt splash shield (3) to the front suspension crossmember (6).
  15. If previously removed, install the fasteners securing the front fascia (1) to the body lower reinforcement.

  16. Install the one fastener (2) securing the wheel house splash shield (1) to the drive belt splash shield (3).

  17. Install the tire and wheel assembly (1). Refer to INSTALLATION . Install and tighten wheel mounting nuts (3) to 135 N.m (100 ft. lbs.).
  18. Lower the vehicle.
  19. Remove the bungee cord and move the cooling module back into is lower mounts.
  20. If previously removed, install the right side bolts securing the lower radiator closure panel in front of the cooling module.

  21. Install the radiator closure panel and fasten (1) it in place.

  22. Install the ambient temperature sensor (2) on the radiator closure panel using the fastener (1).
  23. Install the hood-opening weather-strip across the radiator closure panel.

  24. Install the grille (1) on the front of the vehicle. Refer to INSTALLATION .
  25. Fill and bleed the power steering system. See STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  26. Check for leaks.
