WARNING:
BEFORE SERVICING THE STEERING COLUMN THE AIRBAG SYSTEM MUST BE DISARMED, REFER TO RESTRAINTS - SERVICE INFORMATION
ARTICLE. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAG AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY.
CAUTION:
DO NOT use force as the intermediate shaft is sensitive to the effects of side force.
- Install the steering column.
- Install the lower nuts on the steering column, attaching the steering column to the lower mounting surface. Tighten to 8 N.m (71 in. lbs.).
- Install the upper bolts (1) on the steering column, attaching it to the instrument panel support. Tighten to 20 N.m (15 ft. lbs.).
- Install the pinch bolt (1) attaching the upper steering column to the steering gear. Tighten to 16-20 N.m (11-15 ft. lbs.).
- Connect the clockspring harness connector.
- Install the column trim ring.
- Feed the clockspring harness connectors up through the column.
- Install the speed control switch and retaining screw (1).
- Install the multifunction switch and retaining screws (1-2).
- Connect the ignition switch harness connector.
- Install the instrument cluster (1). Refer to INSTALLATION .
- Install the clockspring and the retaining screws (1). Refer to INSTALLATION .
- Install the steering wheel and the retaining bolt (1). Tighten to 80 N.m (60 ft. lbs.). See INSTALLATION .
- Install the driver airbag. Refer to INSTALLATION .
- Install the right lower instrument panel (2) under the steering column. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Connect the negative battery cable.
