Diagnostic Test

  1. 1) DETERMINE ACTIVE OR STORED DTC
NOTE: Ensure that the battery is fully charged.

    Turn the ignition on.

With the scan tool, read OCM DTCs.

Does the scan tool display this DTC as ACTIVE or STORED?

    ACTIVE DTC

    1. Go to step  2).

    STORED DTC

    1. Clear all Stored DTCs, cycle the key off then on. If this DTC returns, go to step  2).
  2. 2) CHECK THE CIRCUIT VOLTAGE ON THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT TENSION SENSOR FEED CIRCUIT WITH PASSENGER SEAT BELT TENSION SENSOR HARNESS CONNECTOR DISCONNECTED
WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury, turn the ignition off, disconnect the battery and wait two minutes before proceeding.

Disconnect the BTS Sensor harness connector.

WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury, turn the ignition on, then reconnect the battery.

Measure the voltage on the Passenger Seat Belt Tension Sensor Feed circuit in the body side harness connector.

Is the Passenger Seat Belt Tension Sensor Feed circuit voltage between 4.5 and 5.5 volts?

    Yes

    1. Go to step  3).

    No

    1. Replace the Passenger Seat Assembly in accordance with the Service Information.
    2. Perform *AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. 3) CHECK THE CIRCUIT VOLTAGE ON THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT TENSION SIGNAL CIRCUIT WITH PASSENGER SEAT BELT TENSION SENSOR HARNESS CONNECTOR DISCONNECTED

Measure the voltage on the Passenger Seat Belt Tension Sensor Feed circuit in the body side harness connector.

Is the Passenger Seat Belt Tension Sensor Signal circuit voltage between 2.0 and 3.0 volts?

    Yes

    1. Go to step  4).

    No

    1. Replace the Passenger Seat Assembly in accordance with the Service Information.
    2. Perform *AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST .
  4. 4) PASSENGER SEAT BELT TENSION SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN OR HIGH RESISTANCE
WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury, turn the ignition off, disconnect the battery and wait two minutes before proceeding.

Using a 12 volt test light connected to 12 volts, check the Passenger Seat Belt Tension Sensor Ground circuit in the body side harness connector.

NOTE: The test light should be illuminated and bright. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.

Is the test light illuminated and bright?

    Yes

    1. Go to step  5).

    No

    1. Replace the Passenger Seat Assembly in accordance with the Service Information.
    2. Perform *AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. 5) PASSENGER SEAT BELT TENSION SENSOR
WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury, turn the ignition off, disconnect the battery and wait two minutes before proceeding.

Measure the resistance between the Passenger Seat Belt Tension Sensor Ground circuit and the Passenger Seat Belt Tension Sensor Feed circuit in the Passenger Seat Belt Tension Sensor harness connector.

Measure the resistance between the Passenger Seat Belt Tension Sensor Ground circuit and the Passenger Seat Belt Tension Sensor Signal circuit in the Passenger Seat Belt Tension Sensor harness connector.

Does the ohm meter read open circuit between Passenger Seat Belt Tension Sensor Ground and both circuits?

    Yes

    1. Replace the Passenger Seat Assembly in accordance with the Service Information.
    2. Perform *AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST .

    No

    1. Replace the Passenger Seat Belt Tension Sensor in accordance with the Service Information.
    2. Perform *AIRBAG VERIFICATION TEST .
